Separattion or Unity: The Great Divide

We have been taught for many, many eons that we are each completely separate from all else.  It’s funny when you think about it because we are also taught that there is a soul mate out there who will complete us.  If we are separate why are we not complete?  Who is making this stuff up?  What are we suppose to believe?

Here’s the real truth.  Ready?  You might want to sit down for this one. (smile)  Honestly, we are each and everyone of us separate and a part of the whole.  While this may sound like you do need to find that soul mate to complete you, actually nothing could be further from the truth.  You are complete and whole just as you are.  You always have been and you always will be.

You see the whole truth lies in whom you really are.  You are a spiritual being who has chosen to have a physical experience.  So you are not just this body walking around.  It’s like saying that all the air in a room is totally different than all the air in the next room.  First there is no easy way for you to keep the air separate.  It will commingle through the doorways and windows even through the walls, floors and ceilings.  It is all one air.  Now there are ways of separating the air and keeping it in just one room but you will find that unless you take steps to refresh it, it will break down.  Air is not meant to be separated and neither are you.  In fact, it is impossible for you to really be separated on all levels.

While your body has an exterior so that you can see where you end and the next person begins, you are more than that.  You have several layers that are invisible to most people.  That is why you get uncomfortable if someone invades your space.  There is a part of you in that space and you can feel their presence.  That is why you can feel that someone is up to no good even though you have never said a word to them.  We are all connected.  And when I say “we” I’m not just talking about humans.  We means everything and everyone in this world.  Even our furniture is connected to us.   So the saying, ‘no man is an island’ is true.  You are not just the island but also the ocean, all of the creatures on the land and sea, all of the rocks and soil and plants, all of the air, etc.  You are connected to it all.

Okay, so now you know that you are connected.  What does that have to do with your life?  When you see yourself as one with all it changes how view everything else in life.  It’s no longer me against the world.  How can you be against what is you?  How can you hate someone else and not be hating yourself?  How can you do harm to others and not do harm to yourself?  Knowing your connection changes your whole way of being and thinking.  Remember that what we think about is what we see in our lives.  So if you look at some people and think mean and nasty thoughts you are inviting that same kind of thinking back onto yourself.  Have you ever noticed those who feel that they are never lucky are never lucky?  It’s not some mean trick that God is playing; their thoughts are creating their lives.

For so long we have seen all this separation.  We even take things that were separated and separated them even more so that everyone and everything can be put into a neat category.  Why do we do this?  When you meet someone new do you go through a list before you can decide if you like him or her?  Do they have to be the right age, race, sex, income level, education level, religion, hair color, eye color, political group, and nationality?  Do they have to drive the right car, live in the right neighborhood, eat at the right restaurants, read the right newspaper, have the right job and shop at the right stores?   If you do put all the new people you meet to this test do you seriously wonder why you seem to spend so much time alone?  Would you want to be around someone who spent this much time judging you and everything about you?  Are you so afraid of being alive that you feel that all these categories (walls) are going to protect you?

What happens when we start to see the connection?  It opens up so much more in your lives.  It allows you to see others from love.  You no longer have to hate, fear or worry.  You can accept everyone just as they are.  You don’t have force them to be like you, you are already connected and you are not required to be identical.  Where would the fun be in that!  A world full of identical people would get real boring, real fast.  You no longer have to compete; you’ll only be competing against yourself.  You don’t need to be afraid of being yourself.  You’ll be accepted just as you are.

Of course, accepting that we are one and returning to the unity we were created from will have some repercussions.  Actually they are already happening.  All of the systems based on separation will have to end.  And they are.  People will need to open their hearts and release all the old fears, worries and beliefs.  And they are.  The world will change. And it is.  Unity is the wave of the future.  The only question is are you going to catch the wave or be washed away?

Are You Looking To Change The World?

So many of us look at the world and all of the troubles in it these days and we feel that we must do something!  We must do our part to change the world.  How can we expect our children to live in this mess that we have created!  So we join groups and take part in marches.  We send out emails so that everyone will be aware. We spend hours and hours working to make a difference.  But are we really making a difference?  How do you change the world?  And why hasn’t anyone ever been able to change it?

The answers lie within.  To change the world you must first change yourself.  We don’t seem to realize that the world is just a reflection of what we believe.  If we believe that you have to control others then the world is based on control of others.  That means there are wars and violence.  We have police and judges and prisons.  We have authorities that tell us what we can and can not do.  This is all based on what we, as individuals believe.  It is a reflection of what is in our thoughts and feelings.

How can we create peace in the world if we spank our children?  Can you see that they are one and the same?  If you feel that hitting your child is justified then how can you be against anyone hitting anyone else?  You might say it isn’t the same but it is.  It is just a matter of degrees.  It matters not whether the weapon is a hand or a gun.  It is still violence and it is still destruction.  Children don’t learn love from being hit.  They learn how to control through physical violence.  They learn how to be a bully.  Is that really what you want to teach your child?

Now I know that there are some who say that the Bible says, “Spare the rod and spoil the child.” The Bible also says that God is unconditional love.  Why do we not follow that teaching instead of the other?  There are people in this world who raise their children in love.  They don’t hit them or try and control them.  They recognize that small children will do as small children do and they commit themselves to watching over them and guiding them in how to be safe.  This is why it takes a village to raise a child.  We have become so dedicated to the ideal of being separate that we no longer even recognize the benefits of community.  We keep ourselves and our families locked behind doors for fear of what is “out there” and we forget to look at what is “in here”.

So, what would happen if we stopped living lives based on fear?  What would happen if we started to trust each other and trust ourselves?  Would the world just fall apart if there was no longer a “bad guy” for us to blame?  How would life be if we each said, “Okay, I am going to take responsibility for my thoughts, feelings and actions.”  What would happen to all of the guilt and shame?  Who would we have to be angry with?  Are you ready to give up having a scapegoat for all of the problems in the world?

You want to change the world?  Become aware of what you are thinking and feeling.  Become aware of what you are saying and doing.  If someone cuts you off in traffic do you curse and get mad or do you forgive and bless.  Can you see the difference that one action makes for you and for all the other drivers on the road?  It is time to stop protecting ourselves from the external world and start creating an internal world of love, peace, joy and abundance.  If we are each happy with who we are and how our lives are going then who would be fighting the wars?  If we all see the connections that we have with each other then who would we hate?  If we all accept that we are each a child of the Creator then who is the enemy?  To change the world you have to start with you.  What are you waiting for?
